Apple delays launch of iPad

Apple has delayed the global rollout of the iPad, citing huge sell out numbers in the US and a great number of pre-orders being placed. With customers grabbing more than 500,000 iPads during the tablet’s first week, demand has been higher than expected. The company said that it’s also trying to handle a huge number of pre-orders for the 3G iPad models, which are also supposed to reach the hungry hands of U.S. customers by the end of this month.

Apple had planned to begin selling the touchscreen multi-media device in late April in Australia, Britain, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Spain and Switzerland. The iPad went on sale in the United States on April 3. Our blog first reported the launch of the iPad and the controversy surrounding it.

So here’s another update, trademark serial number of 85007501 was assigned to the logo to appear on all iPad packaging. That’s right folks, Apple has applied for trademark rights to the iPad packaging, perhaps a factor featuring in the delay of the rollout?

The mark was filed with the description : Computers; computer peripheral devices; computer gaming machines; digital electronic devices; digital audio and video devices; portable media players; digital electronic devices incorporating computers, personal digital assistants, electronic organizers, electronic notepads, book and periodical readers, global positioning systems (GPS), telephones, cameras, videophones, media players among others.
