Jersey Shore’s DJ Pauly D Facing Trademark Lawsuit Over Stage Name

HollywoodNews.com: ‘Jersey Shore’ star Pauly D is in a little bit of hot water when it comes to his DJ name and persona.

Pauly D is facing a $4 million lawsuit from a Connecticut DJ who claims that his business has been ruined due to Pauly D, states The New York Post. He is facing a trademark infringement lawsuit as the man claims he has been “DJ Paulie” for 40 years and has now had that overtaken by Pauly D.

The lawsuit also reportedly claims that MTV flooded the public with so much ‘Jersey Shore’ that his business has been damaged.


Jersey Shores’ Pauly D a.k.a. Paul Delvecchio has a registered trademark in the category of Education and Entertainment for his stage name “DJ Pauly D“. On June 9th, 2011 he received an Office Action letter on his second trademark application of the same name. The second application was filed under  class 9 (Computer & Software Products & Electrical & Scientific Products), class 41 (Education and Entertainment) and class 43 (Restaurant and Hotel Services).

The Office Action letter states:

“Trademark Act Section 2(d) bars registration of an applied-for mark that so resembles a registered mark that it is likely that a potential consumer would be confused or mistaken or deceived as to the source of the goods and/or services of the applicant and registrant.” … “In the present case, applicant’s mark is DJ PAULY D and the registered marks are  DJ PAULIE and DJ PAULIE’S WORLDWIDE COUNTDOWN.” … “Here, the marks begin with the wording DJ PAULY and DJ PAULIE and DJ PAULIE’S. This wording sounds the same and is most likely to be impressed upon the minds of potential purchasers.”

Paul Lis, The conneticutt DJ who “claims that his business has been ruined due to Pauly D” has two registered trademark application with the United States Patent and Trademark Office: “DJ Paulie” and “DJ Paulie’s Worldwide Countdown
