Apple filing for two “Retina” Trademark Applications

The most recent trademark filings of Apple that include Apple’s Facetime mark have already been discussed here, and the latest news is that Apple have filed for the mark “RETINA”.

The mark “RETINA” has two applications with the serial numbers 85056807 and 85056810. “RETINA” ‘s application bearing the serial number 85056807 was filed under International Class 009 and with description,”Computers; computer hardware; computer displays; computer software; handheld mobile digital electronic devices used as a telephone, handheld computer, personal digital assistant, electronic organizer, and electronic notepad, and used to access the Internet, electronic mail, and other digital data.”

The mark “RETINA” bearing the serial number 85056810 was filed with the description, “Electronic hand-held game units; hand-held electronic games and apparatus (other than those adapted for use with television receiver only)” under International Class 028.

Apple’s CEO Steve Jobs stated in their June 7, 2010 press release that “Apple’s stunning 3.5 inch Retina display has 960 x 640 pixels—four times as many pixels as the iPhone 3GS and 78 percent of the pixels on an iPad. The resulting 326 pixels per inch is so dense that the human eye is unable to distinguish individual pixels when the phone is held at a normal distance, making text, images and video look sharper, smoother and more realistic than ever before on an electronic display.”
