The WWE Protects Its Champs- The Nexus Between Wrestling And Trademarks

As per the latest info, WWE appears not to have renewed the WWE NXT for its fall season.  Per Mike Johnson at PWInsider, the chatter at the WWE offices this morning is that NXT will be finished this fall.

We wonder then what would happen to Darren Young who as reported by some reports, was signed up for a developmental deal with WWE, and chosen for WWE NXT from a pool of other developmental talent, training and wrestling for Florida Championship Wrestling, WWE’s feeder group in Tampa.
However in trademark circles, Darren Young is Hot News apart from his new hair do, for now WWE has applied for trademark protection for his name.
On Tuesday, April 27, 2010, a U.S. federal trademark registration number 85024299 was filed for DARREN YOUNG by World Wrestling Entertainment, Inc. with the description Entertainment services, namely wrestling exhibitions and performances by a professional wrestler and entertainer; entertainment services, namely wrestling competitor on an on-going reality based television program; providing wrestling news and information via a global computer network.
Darren Young is not the only champ WWE has full faith in, WWE filed another application for trademark protection for the name SKIP SHEFFIELD a U.S. federal trademark registration number 85025083 was assigned to it and it was filed with the description Entertainment services, namely wrestling exhibitions and performances by a professional wrestler and entertainer; entertainment services, namely wrestling competitor on an on-going reality based television program; providing wrestling news and information via a global computer network.
The WWE NXT results of April 27th show that Skip Sheffield started the contest and he sold programs for $15 a piece. He ended up with a grand total of $60. Also, Darren Young (with Luke Gallows and Serena) defeated Michael Tarver (with Carlito) in 2:45. Tarver hit a rewind body slam for a two count. Tarver then worked over the shoulder of Young and Young hit back with a few of his profile moves.
